The Government on Wednesday tabled its 2nd Supplementary Budget demanding Rs 2761.42 crore in order to meet its share to the Centrally funded schemes and fill the contingency fund coffers. Minister Saryu Roy presented the Demands for Grants before the House adjourned for the day and later explained the reasoning behind it."Rs 1583 crore is required to meet our part in the Central funds coming while Rs 200 crore is to go into contingency fund. The Budget has no major bearing on the financial health of the annual Budget and net cost is just Rs 1177 crore which were required to meet salary expenses against the new recruitments," said the Minister. He went on adding that the size of the Budget is the smallest among all supplementary presented so far. Annual Budget size was about Rs 75673 crore of which Rs 33643 crore has been spent so far which amounts to 45 per cent only. "Some more bills are in the process of clearance. Also, December to February is the period when maximum spending takes place," said Roy.
