JAC felicitates best performers in pervious academic calendar on Foundation Day
Poor development of human resource in Jharkhand was brought to the fore when Human Resource Development Minister Geetashree Oraon candidly admitted unsatisfactory development of human capital despite Jharkhand being home to some of the best institutions in the country.
Oraon was speaking at the foundation day and felicitation ceremony organised by the Jharkhand Academic Council on Tuesday at Namkom in Ranchi.
Admittedly, the HRD Minister said that dearth of trained teachers is responsible for the present state of affairs of education in Jharkhand and is being addressed by recruitment of faculties trained in teaching rather than allowing untrained to groom the future of Jharkhand. The HRD Minister communicated to the audience about the State Government’s plan to strengthen education through more recruitment but stopped short of time-frame to accomplish the task especially when the incumbent Government is left with little time to move in the direction.
“Recruitment from class one to five is going on and soon trained teaches will be recruited in upgraded high-schools, high-schools and Intermediate schools. This problem (of untrained teachers) will be addressed to some extent by this (recruitment process),” asserted Oraon.
Quality education lagged behind in the State apparently due to single minded approach on building infrastructure and addressing drop out rates through student centric schemes such as mid-day meal, distributing bicycles to girl students and dresses to students to make them join others on the path of enlightenment and development through education.
Secretary HRD, Aradhana Patnaik emphasised on improving the quality of education and widening the scope of education to include marginalised section of society like some of the primitive tribes of Jharkhand. The Secretary rued absence of commitment among stake holders of education sector to address the problems.
“Attention should be paid on downtrodden and those who have not been given opportunity so far. Students belonging to the social strata can excel but they don’t get opportunity. Today there is need of lighting the lamp of education in remote areas but somewhere there is a lack of commitment (among teachers),” added Patnaik.
Interestingly, the occasion was used aptly by chairperson JAC Anand Bhushan to suggest some of the measures for the education sector and also to raise voice for teaching as well as non-teaching staffs who worked hard to ensure that the council meets the deadlines of academic calendar. Notably, the JAC Chairperson also questioned the HRD Minister about steps suggested by the council to bring changes in the field of education in Jharkhand.
“We had suggested State Government to start moral education from Class IX, direct admission to toppers in medical and engineering institutions in Jharkhand. But we have not received any reply of the letter,” rued Bhushan.
The Foundation Day ceremony was a blissful event for outstanding performers in Secondary and Intermediate examinations conducted by the council in 2014. The council conferred gold medals to 19 students, silver medals to four students and and bronze medals to four students for their performance in the examination conducted in the previous academic calendar. Besides, Deputy Commissioners of Giridih and Ramgarh were awarded for showing better results in different categories of examination.
Director Secondary Education John Pascal lakra and other officials of JAC were also present on the occasion.
