In a bid to ensure that the man’s best friend doesn’t suffer in the hands of people in the State, the Jharkhand Animal Welfare Board has issued a social information notice on Saturday keeping in mind the dog breeding and market licensing under provision of prevention of cruelty to animals.
A total amount of Rs 5,000 will be charged as the registration fee from the dog breeders. Under the Act it is stated that remission of the fee will be in the form of demand draft. The permit will be viable for two years.
Chitranjan Kumar, Director of State Animal Husbandry Department said, “The dog breeding and marketing law has certain boundaries for the protection of animals. Thus violation of these limits may lead to certain severe action that will be taken under the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals Act.”
Kumr said that he has written to the Deputy Commissioners and the Superintendents of Police of all the districts of the State pointing out the mishaps with the Animals in the trade market. His letter was to inform the two about the menace the unregistered traders have created.
The board has asked the DCs and SPs to get the detailed data of all the Dog Board Traders and Handlers in the city. Kumar stated that this unprofessional and unauthorized breeding of dogs is punishable. Stern steps should be taken by the officials on these cases. If the permit is not owned by Dog Breeding traders and pet owning Kennels legal action is expected to be enacted.
Dr. Shivanand Kanshi, Veterinary Doctor of the Board, said “The dog breeding and trading rules state that there are specific listed ages for breeding. The count of the breeding of a bitch is once in a year and five times in a life span. This law regulates the breeding styles an individual trader uses for profit, which is harmful for the animal. There are even several artificial techniques or surgeries for breeding are banned under this law. ”
This non- registration of Breeding Animal Traders is a direct act of forgery towards the animal keepers. The permit will restrict and put a stop to all the unprofessional ways of breeding and marketing.
