If suggestions from none other than Governor herself, at least, were taken seriously by RIMS management, then this largest Government-run hospital would welcome a number of new initiatives and facilities, including a meditation centre sooner than later.

Governor Droupadi Murmu gave various suggestions to manage the premier hospital, during her visit to RIMS on Monday, to start a number of activities and services in premise for better care of patients.

The Governor’s visit to RIMS started with a high-level meeting with its officials, in which RIMS Director Bl Sherwal briefed her about the facilities and services being provided to patients and their attendants. He also said that OPD registration through online mode had started in the hospital.

Murmu visited to Children, Neuro, Cardio and other wards, and enquired about health of patients in those wards. Patients in Cardiology ward told the Governor that they were feeling better after being brought there at RIMS and they were satisfied with the treatment they were being given. Kanke MlA Jitu Charan Ram also accompanied her during the visit.

Sherwal informed her that the hospital used to have around 1,800 patients every day. However, those who followed with their patients took this number to a whopping 8,000 on daily basis, which remained a difficult task for hospital management to deal with. He further said that a couple of patients infected with chikungunya were brought here, and were enjoying normal life outside after being treated in RIMS successfully.

The Governor suggested Sherwal to start a meditation centre for patients and their attendants, as it was extremely important for patients to be mentally fit in order to fight with diseases physically. She said that anxiety and tension prevailed in those also who were around their patients, hence a meditation centre would help them equally in overcoming their anxieties.

Murmu suggested that the possibilities of getting help of organisations like Yogada Ashram and Brahmakumari in establishing a meditation centre could be explored.

The Governor reminded officials that RIMS Hospital was not only of Jharkhand, but was an institution of repute nationally. She said that the hospital held expertise in dealing with a couple of such diseases, which were not curable in the hospitals around resulting in an extended dependency of patients on RIMS.

Patients used to travel to RIMS from neighbouring Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Chhattisgarh and it was important for the hospital to provide better healthcare services, suggested Murnu. She also hinted that number of students in RIMS required to be increased by 100, to take it to 250 from present strength of 150.

The Governor also took a round to kitchen of RIMS Hospital and enquired about quality of food being prepared there. She said that automatic machines were there in the market, that could prepare up to 150 chapatis at one go. She also directed to put tiles at places and to provide furniture wherever there was required.
