The schemes are meant to provide financial security to especially those who are out of the security net and working in unorganised sectors. On nominal payment of Rs12 for a year anyone having a bank account can get accidental insurance for Rs 2 lakh while for life insurance one has to pay just Rs330 annually.

“First scheme is ‘Prime Minister Suraksha Bima Yojna’ for persons in 18-70 year age group. It is accidental insurance of Rs2 lakh and would also insure the person against disability in accident. The second scheme is ‘Prime Minister Jiwan Jyoti Bima Yojna’ which is a life insurance of Rs2 lakh against annual premium of Rs330. Another scheme is ‘Atal Pension Yojna’ which assures pension anywhere between Rs1000 to Rs5000 per month after 60 years of age depending on contribution,” said Rural Development Minister Neelkant Singh Munda informing media persons on Wednesday.

The schemes have been specially designed to make it compatible with saving bank accounts and premiums can only be paid through auto-debit facility. The Government has run intensive drive to open bank accounts for every household under Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojna and in Jharkhand alone over 37 lakh new accounts have been opened under it so far.

Rural Development Secretary NN Sinha said, on the occasion, that the Government would share half of the contribution in the pension scheme opened between June 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015 for five years, i.e. 2019-20. “Moreover the Government’s contribution would not come if the applicant is already a member of any other social security scheme like EPFO and other provident fund plans. Even those enrolled for Swavalamban scheme, introduced earlier, would be given a choice to switch to the Atal Pension Scheme,” said Sinha.

Premier life insurance company lIC, other insurance companies and banks have been roped in to execute the schemes. “PM Jiwan Jyoti scheme would cover all kinds of deaths, natural or unnatural, or even suicides the policyholders meet in the age group of 18-50 years,” said Munda.
