Governing council nod to RIMS varsity

In a bid to equip Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) with more financial and operational autonomy, its Governing Council today approved the proposal for RIMS University. The proposal after being passed from Medical Council of India (MCI) and University Grants Commission (UGC) before Jharkhand government passes it, will remove a number of operational and financial hurdles which the largest government medical college and hospital of the State has been facing since long.

Health Minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi said after the meeting on Tuesday that the council has also approved proposal of no fees for pathology tests up to `250. “In a big relief to patients suffering from stone diseases, it has been decided to restrict stone removal operation charges to

Rs 5,000, for which private hospitals have been taking not less than Rs 35,000-40,000 these days. Moreover, Below Poverty line (BPl) patients with annual income not exceeding Rs 72,000 will have to pay absolutely nothing for this operation,” said Chandravanshi.

He said that there were around 10 proposals to discuss in 43rd meeting, majority of which were approved. Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Sudhir Tripathi, RIMS Director Bl Sherwal, Kanke MlA Jeetu Charan Ram and other members were also present in the meeting.

Prolonged demand of a dedicated Physiotherapy Course under RIMS was also on the cards only to be approved. Notably, Governor and Ex-Officio Chancellor of all the State run universities Droupadi Murmu had asked Ranchi University (RU) Vice Chancellor (VC) RK Pandey during a national seminar on Physiotherapy a week ago to come up with proposal of Physiotherapy Course under RIMS, so that the process of establishment of first Physiotherapy College in the State could be started.

“We have approved the plan and we expect a Physiotherapy Course to be started under RIMS as early as next year,” said Tripathi.

He added that the issue of Nursing College was also among one of the major issues, as RIMS had to lose affiliation for this year course due to shortage of tutors/teachers.

“We have decided to recruit teachers/tutors on ad hoc basis as soon as possible, so that nursing course could be resumed from next year,” said Tripathi.

Sherwal said that issues related to shortfalls of dental college including salary of the Principal and other staffs have been discussed and approved. “Another major issue was of the liftmen transferred to other places, having problems in their salaries and allowances have been resolved,” said Dr Sherwal.

He added that proposals like revised allotments of buildings under RIMS, sending internal audit report to Auditor General, bringing daily wages workers under Employers Provident Fund umbrella were also approved during the meeting.
