Golden hour system needs infrastructural support

The newly started initiative golden hour system has caught some early bugs and raking for infrastructural support before being sleep into another futile exercise in times of need.

Recently, a horrific accident which took place near the SSP residence where a man was knocked down by a four wheeler is a clear evidence of it.Despite rigorously seeking help for an ambulance from the golden hour system control room the vehicle did not reach, and at last with the help of some locals the victim was taken to a nearby hospital.Traffic SP Rajeev Ranjan who had played a pivotal role in bringing the golden hour system in place in the capital he replied, “We require such ambulance which is dedicated for this work only. The hospital ambulance is sometimes unavailable and as a result of which it fail to provide service at time of emergency. We have asked from Heath Department officials to provide the control room some ambulance dedicated only for the service.”

In an effort to provide instant relief from the victim of road incident- ‘Golden hour’ system was inaugurated with much fanfare in the state capital from Feburary 1. Under the system an accident victim will be carried to the nearby hospital within an hour of the accident.Around 52 ambulances are directly connected with the administration’s control room and as many as 26 hospitals have promised to extend their help to it.However, According to the control room officials, the system is getting responses the Traffic police’s control room has received around 20 distress calls since it was inaugurated.

Most of the calls were made from the outskirts of the city on highways which is claimed to be addressed on time by respective hospitals and traffic police. However, insufficient awareness about life saving facility available just a phone call away has brewed pessimism among stakeholder about continuance of the system.“The awareness cannot be done at our end. My hospital received a call and we provided the ambulance as well as treatment to the victim. It is the responsibility of the administration to generate awareness about the same,” said RIMS Director Tulsi Mahto.

Incidentally, the man behind the idea has stressed on working jointly to iron out the problem and have appealed from the health department to make extend their help in this direction.
