'Golden Hour' system from February 1

Published on:

Many people die in road accident every year in Jharkhand for want of timely help and absence of coordination between institutions that are incidentally meant to cooperate in saving lives of accident victims. However, things are set to change for such victims for whom every minute counts and a delay of even a second narrows the gap between life and death.

The Ranchi Traffic Police will implement the concept of "Golden Hour" from February 1 to reduce casualty on the streets of the Capital. The concept depends on coordination between people-police-hospital to scale down the number of casualties due to road accidents. "Every year around 14,000 to 17,000 people lose their life in road accident across Jharkhand. The concept is aimed at reducing casualties in road accidents", said SP Traffic Rajeev Ranjan Singh, the person behind the concept.

Under the concept an accident victim will be carried to a nearby hospital within an hour of the accident incidentally referred as "Golden Hour", by the administration. Timely help in the first hour could reduce casualties in road accidents. The concept encourages people to dial the helpline number (100) where an official will attend the call and accordingly will inform the concerned hospital to provide medical assistance. As many as 52 ambulances are directly connected with the administration control room.

"Doctors point out since maximum damage is done in first hour around 50 per cent of the fatalities can be averted if the victims are admitted to the hospitals within the first hour," added the Traffic SP. Notably, a meeting in this regard was conducted between Traffic Police and hospital authorities on January 24. As many as 26 hospitals including Raj Hospital, Nagarmal Modi Seva sadan, Apollo hospital, Rampyari Hospital, Anjuman Hospital, Raj Trust Hospital at Tupudana, Harmu Hospital, KC Roy Hospital, Devkamal Hospital, Rani Children Hospital, Chaudhary Nursing hospital, Medicare hospital, Allam Nursing home, Vinayaka hospital, ESI hospital, Ranchi hospital, Gurunanak hospital, Orchid hospital, Santevita hospital, lakshmi Nursing home, CCl hospital, Gulmohar hospital, Sadar hospital and HEC hospital have promised to extend their services.

Devkamal hospital director Ananth Kumar appreciating the effort of traffic SP said, "Knowledge of what to do in emergency is essential. If the plan comes into action then in coming days the casualties in road accidents will go down to great extent." In the presence of CM Hemant Soren, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Shashank Shekhar Bhogta Health Minister Rajendra Prasad, Ranchi MlA CP Singh and Naveen Jaiswal the plan will be launched, informed the Traffic SP.
