Go Green initiative has taken a spur in Ranchi which is looking forward to restore the glory it is loosing with every passing day. Recent initiatives coming from Forest Department, Municipal Corporation and common citizens can be proved important cogs of a greater wheel.
Notably Ranchi DFO coined the initiative to encourage the common people to plant tree by organising “Tree on your Name” Program. The program turned out to be a huge success. The response was overwhelming in which almost 700 people turned up to plant trees named after them and even paid the designated amount for that. Trees were planted on roadside from Jagarnathpur Temple to Sai Temple in Dhurwa.
DFO Rajeev lochan Bakshi says, “The extra ordinary response has led us to take the new step in establishing Smriti Van on 16 acres of forest land on the Ring Road in village Tonko in Tupudana. Here people can plant trees in the memory of their ancestors, family members and near and dear ones. We hope to start Smriti Van very soon.”
RMC have also taken forward the task and is in the lines of constructing parks in each and every ward so that children and elderly people can spent their time in the open and green space. “We have received NOC for four new Nigam Parks in Harmu Housing Colony where the work has already been started. This is our small initiative in making Ranchi city a Green city again. This initiative is taken in order to make the children and the elderly people come out of their house and get involved in some sort of physical activity there to lead a healthy life.”
Though, the initiatives have not made denizens of Ranchi as pleased lost who has array of apprehensions. “I don’t think the initiative taken by RMC will be a 100 per cent success. Just by creating green patches in few areas the city will not turn it into a green city. Instead the government should take the initiative to reach the doors of each citizen of Ranchi with a plant on their hand and ask them to complete their duty by planting trees and make the city green,” said Rakesh Agarwal a visitor at Nigam Park.
“If the Government is taking such initiative then I will not mind paying even Rs500 for turning my city Green city as it was before 10 years ago,” said Pramod Jaiswal visitor at Nigam Park.
Now this question remains still unanswered whether people of Ranchi will witness whether Ranchi City a Green City or whether the initiatives taken by the government officials will just go in vain.
