Police, on Wednesday, arrested at least three armed miscreants and recovered four country-made pistols after an encounter with the arms peddlers at Godda district’s Godda College Chowk.
Acting on a tip off from intelligence sources, Godda Superintendent of Police, Shailendra Prasad Barnwal, constituted a special team to nab the arms peddlers and decided to lead the team from the front. After seeing the police team at Godda College Chowk, the peddlers opened fire on the police and the police had to retaliate, sources said.
Eventually, after exchanging five rounds of fire with the miscreants, the police managed to arrest all three of them. “We have recovered four country-made pistols and arrested three peddlers. They were on their way to Deoghar,” said Barnwal.
The arrested trio are from Bihar’s Jamui district and had come to Jharkhand to illegally sell arms and ammunitions, police said.
The three arrested were a part of a gang which smuggled arms and ammunitions to Jharkhand, where local thugs bought the guns to execute thefts and burglaries.
Police sources said that the consignment that was being taken to Deoghar was possible for a major crime planned by local goons. Interrogation of the arrested peddlers, they said, will give further information about their plans to the police.
