Department of School Education and literacy has decided to conduct compulsory personality development, general knowledge enrichment and moral education classes in all Government schools from the new academic session.

In a workshop held recently with the District Education Officers (DEOs), District Superintendent of Education (DSEs) and teachers of Government schools, it has unanimously been decided by the department that all the students studying in primary section of Government schools will be imparted general knowledge enrichment, moral education including personality development classes on every Saturday.

“From several years, it has been noticed that candidates though are getting promoted to higher classes, they lack even basic knowledge which is the major drawback and need to be addressed as soon as possible. lack of basic concepts not only create problem for the students in pursuing higher studies but it also creates problem for teachers too,” said Ranchi DEO, Rajkumar Prasad Singh.

“Apart from quality education it is mandatory to impart moral education among kids. If present scenario is considered, moral values are lacking both among the school students and teachers. Such classes are immensely helpful in both enriching and enhancing the personality of students and wider their knowledge sphere,” added Singh.

For several years, to combat the dropout rates among students several initiatives like mid-day meal scheme, providing free books and uniform to students, bio-metric attendance were enhanced in all the Government schools, as a result kids and teachers turned down to schools but their are certain major drawbacks which need to be addressed in order to provide quality education and for over all development of students passing from government schools.

The Department of School Education and literacy has instructed all the Government school to initiate the project as earliest. The schools will prepare the schedule accordingly. “Every Saturday, the classes will be conducted without hampering the students’ normal routine. Time-table must be prepared giving equal weight age to all the three subjects which include moral education, personality enhancement and general Knowledge enrichment classes,” Singh pointed out.
