Girlfriend helps lover to escape from RIMS

A mentally unstable patient indentified as Pintu escaped on Sunday from prime hospital of the State Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) reportedly with the help of his girlfriend that has yet again raised questions over security aspects at the institution.

The patient is believed to have escaped the hospital on Saturday night to have a jolly weekend with his girlfriend and was found loitering around Jagannathpur by the officials of the police station on Sunday afternoon.

“I was lodged in Palamu jail after the parents of the girl I wanted to marry filed an FIR against me,” said Pintu after being interrogated at Bariatu PS after getting nabbed. He had gone to RIMS for a check-up when his girlfriend came and helped him escape from the Hospital, according to one of the nurses in the Hospital.

On one hand the police officials have confirmed regarding the escape and surrender of the patient, while on the other hand the officials of the hospital have been making contradictory statements, saying that they have no knowledge regarding the incident.

“I have not received anything in written format but there was a rumour going on that one patient may have escaped the hospital three to four days ago,” said the Superintendent of the Hospital, Vivek Kashyap. He further mentioned that he cannot confirm anything seeing that he was in Bangalore at that time. While the Superintendent made this statement, other officials of the Hospital have denied any knowledge in the matter.

“We did not have any knowledge about this until the patient came and surrendered in the police station. He came on his own with handcuffs on,” said one of the officials at the Jagannathpur Police Station. He was brought to Bariatu Police Station later on, confirmed a police official.
