An 11-year-old girl died after being fatally burnt as she reportedly set herself ablaze at her house in Birsanagar Zone No 3 under Telco police station area on Monday morning. She was identified as Basanti Gorai. She was rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital, but succumbed to her burns.
The minor had reportedly set herself ablaze after pouring kerosene oil at about 8 am on Monday when she was alone in the room. The family members and neighbours immediately rushed her to the medical college hospital emergency.
Rajesh Gorai, elder brother of the burnt minor said that they did not know exactly why did Basanti set herself on fire. Assistant sub-inspector of police, B Mahto informed that the girl died at about 3 pm. “As per our initial investigation this may not be a case of accidental burning, as one cannot sustain 90 percent burns during cooking. Moreover, there was the girl’s sister-in-law also at home at the time when she was burnt,” said the ASI. The body was sent to the MGM Medical College mortuary for a postmortem.
