Gift plants, not bouquets to each other: CM

Published on:

Chief Minister Hemant Soren urged people to present plants as gifts to each other rather than bouquets. While addressing a gathering at the State Legislative Assembly during the Van Mahotsav programme on Monday, the CM appealed to one and all to take a pledge to save the environment and plant trees.

“In any programme, people give bouquets to each other as a gift, but I believe that instead of the bouquet, why not give each other a plant as a gift and take a pledge to preserve that plant. If every person takes a pledge to save a tree in life, then surely we will be able to play our important part in environmental protection. All of us should join this tree plantation campaign today and take a pledge to make it meaningful,” he said.

“It is the result of tampering with the environment that fires are seen in the forests for years and months, somewhere the rivers are drying up and somewhere the outbreak of floods, storms, unseasonal rains, many types of natural calamities are being seen and heard in the country and the world. . All these disasters have had a negative impact in human life. God has given us the water, forest, land present on the earth in the form of a natural system for human civilization and life, through which we all live our lives. Tampering or exploiting these natural resources is a danger to life. It is necessary to establish better coordination between the environment and human life. Conservation of nature is the moral responsibility of all of us as well as the government individually,” he said.

Soren said that at present, many seminars, talks etc are being organised in the country and the world regarding the environment. People from big organisations, industries, social institutions etc are concerned about the environment. He said that nature has done the work of beautifying our Jharkhand State with forest, river-waterfall, and natural beauty as a valuable gift.

This region covered with forests is not only known for its natural beauty, but nature has also given us the reserves of mineral wealth above and within the ground. The CM said that in the history of the last several decades, it has been seen that we have not been able to protect the environment as much as it should have been.

A large number of trees have been felled in the development and construction works of infrastructure. It is important in the present times to save trees from being cut.

Addressing the programme, the CM made an important suggestion from his side. He said that a new model of plantation programme should be made on the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly premises.

This Vidhan Sabha Complex is spread over 50-60 acres of land. If a fruit tree is selected under the said land and this complex is developed as a garden, then it can be a very positive and good initiative. By generating resources, the Legislative Assembly complex can be made a source of income by developing it as a great garden.

He said that lakhs of rupees are spent by the government in the decoration, beautification and maintenance of the Vidhan Sabha premises. Why not prepare such a mechanism so that such an amount can be made available from the fruits of the garden so that the complete maintenance work of this complex can be done.

The CM said that the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly should become the first such Legislative Assembly in the country to be maintained from its own garden funds.

Addressing the programme on this occasion, Speaker of Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha, Rabindra Nath Mahto said that in present times environmental crisis has emerged among human civilization. Certainly we all need to come forward to overcome this crisis. Forests, trees, plants have an important place in rural economic policy. Tree farming is a farming that is passed on from generation to generation.

Tree farming is considered a source of income in the rural economy. The Speaker of the Assembly said that continuous cutting of trees and exploitation of nature are alarm bells for human civilization. In recent times the whole world was going through an oxygen crisis.

Deforestation has had a negative impact on human life. The Speaker said that according to the suggestions of the CM, the work of planting fruit trees will definitely be done on the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly premises.

Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Ministers Alamgir Alam, Mithilesh Kumar Thakur, Badal, MLAs Lambodar Mahto, Deepika Pandey Singh, Anoop Singh, Mamta Devi, Baijnath Ram, Samri Lal, Sameer Mohanty, Amit Mandal, Vinod Singh and others also gave the message of conservation of nature by planting saplings.
