Smart City tag lovers along with the habitual civic rule offenders will have to empty their pockets in case they are found emptying their mouth full of Pan Masala, Gutkha and other tobacco products in public. Not only this, people will also have to pay fine against caught urinating anywhere other than public toilets already established and being established in different parts of the city. Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) Standing Committee today accepted this proposal among many others in a meeting today to keep city clean and tidy.
The Standing Committee meeting started with a huge uproar of Ward Councilors raising voices against no such meeting in last six months. They demanded to have such meeting at least once in every month, as described in the constitution of RMC, so that the lingering on of issues related to public interest could be avoided. However, the voices got settled after Mayor Asha lakra assured the Councilors of organizing such meeting at regular intervals.
Though a fine against spitting and urinating in public is already in place in Mumbai and a few other places for some time by now and RMC officials didn’t hesitate claiming to be inspired from there. Yet the civic body said that such a proposal was brought only after it found people turning bankrupt as far as civic sense was concerned. “We have deployed mobile toilets at a couple of places in the city. But we have found people urinating adjacent to it and not using them. We have also found people spilling the domestic garbage and waste outside dustbin. Citizens need to act smart if they want to have their city smart, clean and tidy,” said Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargeeya after the meeting.
The civic body has planned to outsource the work of imposing fine to those spitting anywhere and everywhere and urinating at places other than defined. Deputy Mayor said that tender inviting bids for this work would be floated soon. The company selected after successful bidding would deploy their men to impose and collect pre-fixed fine. He added that the process of floating bid for this would start soon to get the system in place in six months.
RMC also said that the pending works of construction of waste transfer sub-station at Khelgaon, Kantatoli and Harmu would resume from November 15 to get them done at the earliest. It also passed the proposal of imposing fine against illegal water connections in the city. Issue of electric crematorium at Muktidham in Harmu also remained a major point of discussion.
“After two failed tenders of inviting bids for its repairing, I have suggested to get whole new machines installed and get the issue of electric crematorium resolved once and for all,” said Vijayvargeeya. However, the Mayor said that she would decide about it soon.
