State Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Geetashree Oraon has given a proposal to the chairman of Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC)-cum-West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan for setting up a Cultural Centre in the State.
“The Cultural Centre initially to be constructed in Ranchi to preserve our vibrant culture would have an art gallery, auditorium showcasing theatre plays and Fine Arts College. later on, it will be extended to Bokaro, Dhanbad and Santhal Pargana districts,” said Geetashree, also the HRD Minister, during a felicitation ceremony ‘Guru Vandan’ of former Vice Chancellors (VC), Pro-VCs and retired teachers on the occasion of Teacher’s Day at Aryabhatt Hall of Ranchi University on Thursday. A total of 42 retired teachers were felicitated on the occasion.
She had represented the State at the EZCC’s meeting, held in Kolkata on Wednesday, wherein representatives from Assam, Bihar, Manipur, Tripura, Odisha, Sikkim, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar islands also gathered.
Adding more to the issue, Geetashree said that the purpose of establishing these cultural hubs is to stop the ‘brain drain’ of the youngsters especially in the field of art and culture. She said, “Regular workshops would be organized for local artists by the Cultural Centre who in turn would visit every district and panchayat to channelize the art and cultural talent among school goers.”
The HRD Minister also said that students of five state universities consisting of Ranchi University, Nilamber Pitamber University, Sido Kanhu Murmu University, Kolhan University and Vinoba Bhave University will get the exposure of volunteering in the Second Junior South Asian Federation (SAF) Athletics Championships scheduled at Ranchi from September 28 to 29.
She said that this will help them in developing their personality. “We will soon invite the respective universities for their volunteers’ participation,” she added.
