The Garhwa district administration will appeal to migrant labourers and farmers to take part in the electoral process during the panchayat polls.
District Returning Officer cum Deputy Commissioner of Garhwa, A Muthu Kumar said on Wednesday that the district administration would appeal to the migrant laborers to return their homes and cast their votes on scheduled date. Kumar said that Election Commission has not issued any direction in this regard.
Thousands of labourers who really want to cast their vote in this panchayat election will not be able to vote. The rural poor, farm laborers and many like them would not be able to cast their votes as they are out of district for the search of job.
Though migration is not new for Garhwa district, devastation of agriculture, zero investment, collapse of employment, in the last decade has made the problem more acute. Very poor crop yield this year has pushed the people for migration.
