Garbage filled wards to ruin better ranking dreams

The hope for better grading in sanitation survey challenge-2018 may fade away, if this time again, the Municipal Corporation do not keep its focus on maintaining cleanliness at interior localities. Though attempts are being put to streamline all basic civic issues, disposal of solid waste still remains a prime concern at a few wards. Mayor Asha lakra said that after knowing about the dates of the survey, efforts are being put to resolve all problems strategically on time.

“I am personally visiting the wards to know the exact status of the wards. Also, supervisors have been instructed to coordinate with MSW-Essel Infra team to maintain timeliness in garbage collection and disposal. However, if people will not cooperate with us, it is highly difficult to bring the city in top ranking,” the Mayor said.

“Deployment of extra human resource to carry out the work at a few bigger wards has been ensured. We are ready to lend support in maintaining the setup. Enforcement team has been ordered to strictly ensure implementation of all norms and penalize the defaulters, if found violating the rules. Also, all such wards are being identified where collection and disposal of garbage is not be carried out properly,” the Mayor added. Recently, during a meeting, the Mayor has asked the ward supervisors of 22, 29 31, 34 and 36 to improve the work at these wards while maintaining timeliness.

According to the officials, the team from Centre to assess the capital city on different cleanliness parameters is likely to visit somewhere between February 5 to February 15. “Since the Corporation has not received any official confirmation from the Ministry about the inspection date, it is presumed that within this week or next, the inspection will be conducted here. The Civic Body team is trying to streamline the service by February 5,” she said.

Notably, Karvy Data Management Services limited (Karvy) has been selected to hold Swachhta Survekshan-2018 across 4041 Urban local Bodies (UlBs). The team will not just verify the documents presented by Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) but will also get the feedback from public and is also likely to visit a few wards or even some slum areas. The team is likely to stay here for minimum three days for analyzing all facts.

Ensuring the participation of public, six questions carrying 1000 marks will be asked from the people who will be selected randomly through the data base maintained by RMC. The assessment of UlBs will be done out of 4,000 points. For documentation work 1,400 points will be given. For citizens’ feedback, the UlB will get 1,000 points while for direct observation 1,200 points will be given to the municipal corporation. The survey will conclude on March 10.
