Four auto thieves of a gang were arrested by Ranchi Police while investigating the theft of a State Health Department car stolen from Sukhdevnagar police station area few days ago. Six vehicles, including the one owned by the Government, were recovered from their possession.
Rajdeep alias Kishan Kumar and Shubham Yadav, the brains behind the
operation, were arrested along with Chandan Kumar and Munna Kumar Yadav late evening on Thursday. One Tata Spacio, which belong to the Health Department, two Maruti Omni vans, one goods-loading auto-rickshaw and two scooters were recovered from their possession.
“They targeted and stole low-key vehicles which can be sold off easily in order to dispose them. Investigating them further will disclose their modus operandi and buyers in detail,” said Ranchi SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi during a press conference on Friday.
While interrogating, we found that Munna had the responsibility of disposing off the stolen vehicles, said Sukdevnagar OC Nawal Kishor Singh.
It was found that the two vans found in their possession had the same registration plate, a method which could have been employed to hide stolen vehicles. “Chandan, who worked as a driver, used to put the number plate of a vehicle registered in his name on the stolen vehicles. As the engine and chassis numbers are rarely checked, this would have allowed him to make away with a stolen car even when stopped for checking,” said Dwivedi.
