Four remanded in judicial custody over immersion violence

Four persons have been remanded to judicial custody in a case where an illegal pistol was allegedly flaunted during Durga puja immersion procession at village Koreeyadeeh ( Sonepura) under Tarhassi police station.

Holding press conference here on Monday SP Palamu Indrajeet Mahatha said the four sent to jail are Ashok, Nishant, Pankaj and Kamruddin. The pistol has been recovered, he said.

Unraveling the case the SP said one Shashikant Sharma recorded his statement before the police where he named the persons for hurting him with a pistol during Durga puja immersion procession on October 21. Sharma was hurt in his leg when a shot came out from that pistol.

Police arrested Ashok and Nishant and from here the case opened a new can of worms. Ashok blamed one Kamruddin for the firearm. Police raided Kamruddin’s house where as the SP said the pistol was found on the roof of his bath room.

Here two more names came one of Pankaj and the other of Surender saying that Pankaj and Surender had given this pistol to Kamruddin. This handing down of pistol was done after the single fire shot and when Sharma down with leg injury on this account.

Except Chhotu, Vikkie and Surender all others are jailed like Ashok, Nishant, Pankaj and Kamruddin. Sharma is under treatment and once he gets well he too will be jailed as Ashok’s v ersion made him accused of flaunting the illicit pistol in the Durga puja immersion procession. The SP at his press briefing claimed the case is cracked and solved.

However more than a dozen villagers of Koreeyadeeh had come to SP office to meet him to tell the ‘fact of the matter’ when these people narrated an altogether a different version of the whole case before the media persons on their coming out of the SP’s chamber after the SP wound up his pc reiterating that Nishant and Kamruddin are innocent and it is Ashok who had flaunted the illicit pistol from which a shot came out and that hurt Sharma.

The villagers’ contention was that chowkidar had played a very foul game here and to save two of the accused Chhotu and Vikkie this chowkidar had implicated innocents like Nishant and kamruddin.

The villagers’ further contention was that Sharma was not flaunting the illicit weapon but it was Ashok who did it and Sharma got hurt in the shot that came out from the pistol. The villagers vouched for truth but begged not to be identified saying Koreeyadeeh chowkidar and Tarhassi police will further implicate them in false cases.

Sources said the case is too wide open with a volley of questions like who flaunted the illicit pistol? According to the SP who quoted Sharma’s recorded statement before police it was Ashok joined by Chhotu, Vikkie and Nishant who hurt him in his leg. Villagers said it is a fabrication of fact and chowkidar has manufactured this story line to save his two kin Chhotu and Vikkie.

Again the recovery place of illicit pistol is described as that of the bath room roof of Kamruddin while villagers drawn from both the communities vouch it is a white lie and here again the chowkidar has played a very foul play.

This case does not give any relief to Sharma who too will be booked under Arms Act once his wounds in leg get cured said SP. He is the complainant right now of this case but for flaunting illicit pistol as per the version of one of the accused Ashok Sharma he is liable to be jailed under Arms Act for possessing and flaunting it on a sensitive occasion like this religious procession repeated SP.
