Officials of tiger reserve Palamu are too elated. The cause of elation is the camera trapping of four cubs of hyena. Sources said in the last three decades or so nobody can vouch to have sighted as many as four cubs of hyena in one go as this camera trapping has shown these four cubs just two days back only.
The four cubs with their mother hyena were camera trapped in the protected forest of Hoordaag in Garu range of south division of PTR.
Deputy director South division M K Mahaling has confirmed the camera trapping of four cubs in the protected forest of Hoordaag in Garu range of PTR.
Mahaling said the cubs are well and healthy looking.
Hyena like wolf is detested by many, admired by none for reason that bad stories are associated with these two wild lives.
Hyena is generally labeled as lakar Bhagga which means child lifter and this has made this carnivore the most despised wild life.
This nocturnal wild life is important in food chain as it feeds on the bony carcass of the prey killed by large predator.
Sources said if a tiger has a kill then it is first consumed by the killer the tiger, then the left over is shared by the leopard, hyena and jackal.s Hyena is thus also a scavenger.
