A dogged and persistent chase to recover timber by a team of forest personnel of Palamau tiger sanctuary from police who were too determined and desperate to get away with the timber ended finally in recovery of the timber. Sources said this team of Kutku range of the tiger sanctuary created a sort of history as this team recovered 80 pieces of slippers and door frames all of the sal and bija trees from police.
Sources said it was a rare act in the recent past. Sources said this has sent out a strong message to timber mafiosi.
Deputy director of North division of the Palamau tiger sanctuary Kumar Ashish said a police official of the Madgari police picket illegally got felled trees and collected 80 pieces of it including door frames and wanted to transport it out from Madgari. Ashish said the forest personnel got a whiff of it and began all efforts to regain the timber. He said the police man had no idea that forest personnel would be after this timber. "Our team gave a chase to that vehicle that was transporting the timber which was given further cover by a senior police officer of the Bhandarya police station but our forest personnel went on its mission and forced police to abandon the timber,"he said.
Now the guilty police officers face heat of the law as said Ashish there is an offence report against the two police officials on charges of felling trees, collecting timber, possessing it illegally and then by foul means wanting to smuggle timber again all unlawfully. Ashish said he would bring this criminal act of the police officials to the notice of the DIG and IG of police.
