Security forces on Saturday recovered a cache of arms and ammunition and busted a Moaists’ camp on the Jharkhand-Bihar border in Chatra district. The success came after an encounter of the forces with the squad of Gautam Paswan of CPI (Maoist), who carries a Rs 25 lakh reward on his head in Jharkhand.
The planned Naxal operations run by Jharkhand Police to nab the top militants are proving to be very effective. In the border areas of Chatra and Gaya of Jharkhand, a major action was taken on the most active and notorious squad of CPI-Maoists in this area, on the secret information of Jharkhand Police. In a joint operation by team 203 Cobra battalion, Jharkhand Jaguar and Chatra police, on the information of the gathering of Gautam Paswan and Indal Ganjhu squad in Phata forest area under Hunterganj police station of Chatra, forces achieved the success.
The search operation team was proceeding after conducting a thorough investigation of the forest area when the ambushed Maoists opened indiscriminate fire on the security teams. Responding to the firing of the militants, the security forces retaliated. Seeing the campaign team getting overwhelmed, the Maoist leaders along with their squad members ran away. After the encounter, an intensive search operation is being conducted by cordoning the area from all sides.
During the search, five magazines along with a cache of 495 bullets and INSAS rifles looted from the security forces were recovered. The Maoists fled, leaving behind their wireless sets, mobile phones and essentials. After a long time, their camp was completely demolished in the crackdown in this area against the Maoists. This strategic joint action against the Maoists has caused a lot of damage to the active Maoist squad in the border area.
Due to the continuous operation against the Maoists by the security forces, in the joint operation of the border tri-junction area of Chaibasa and Seraikela, two Maoists were killed and a cache of bullets with state-of-the-art weapons was also recovered. The camp of Naxalites in Budha Pahar on the border of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh was also demolished and a large number of landmines, bullets and other explosives were recovered.
