State Food and Civil Supplies department Minister Saryu Roy has said that the Food Security Act will be implemented from September 1 in Jharkhand. Addressing a Press conference, the Minister informed that Union Minister Ramvilas Paswan has asked Jharkhand Government to implement the Food Security Act in all the 24 districts simultaneously by September 1.
“We will work accordingly and will complete the groundwork by August 31 so that the act can be implemented in all the districts of the State instead of going phase-wise,” noted Roy. He informed that about 2.65 crore people will be benefited from the scheme which is 80 per cent of the population. People who are 60 years and above will be entitled for the scheme.
The Minister said that the cards for the beneficiaries will be printed at the district level. Beneficiaries will receive rice at Rs 3 per kg and wheat at Rs 2 a kg. “It is an ambitious project for our Government and we will make it success. We have also decided to launch a drive to spread awareness about the scheme from July 1 to July 15. The scheme will run at panchayat and urban areas,” Roy said.
He asked the officials to ensure that the scheme is implemented efficiently in the State and actually benefits those for whom it is meant. “Adequate arrangements have to be made to check the prescribed stock limit of essential commodities from time to time so that no one can indulge in artificial shortage by way of hoarding of necessary articles, leading to black-marketing,” Roy said.
