The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) has landed in some uncalled for controversy after it shot off a show cause notice to noted ophthalmologist and a senior member of the Chamber Dr Bharti Kashyap for a spat which happened some 20 days back.
According to sources, a verbal spat between FJCCI president Bikash Singh and Dr Bharti Kashyap over eligibility of heading the chamber’s health sub-committee during its executive committee meeting on October 21, prompted the trade body to issue a show cause notice. Dr Bharti, who has been elected twice to the trade body, is said to have asked the Chamber president of the reasons behind ignoring her claim to head the health sub-committee of the FJCCI.
However, General Secretary of the body Pawan Sharma, who has issued the notice, said that Dr. Bharti had misbehaved with the president during the meeting on the issue of appointment of the chairperson of a sub-committee in front of other members and the show cause has a mention of that only. “We have issued the show cause notice just as a formal disciplinary action so that it presents a good example before other members. We do not have any ill-will or personal grudge against Dr. Bharti. She is a senior member of the body and she should have raised her objections during the election of the sub committee chairperson. She should have voiced her objections in a proper manner,” said Sharma.
The notice, on the other hand, states that Dr. Bharti’s behaviour was uncalled for and it was against the prestige and honour of the organisation. She has been requested to reply to the notice within 10 days. When contacted, she refused to comment in this regard. Dr. Bharti, Medical Director of Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital, is a noted figure in the State.
She has been into community service through conducting dozens of eye check up camps for socially and economically backward classes and making inroads into Maoist affected areas across the State to help the population that rarely gets access to proper health facilities. She has also been instrumental in promulgation of the ordinance to protect the medical fraternity from hooligans.
