Decks have been cleared for construction of Five Star Hotel in State Capital. The State Housing Board had invited proposal from hotel groups for construction of hotel at Sahjanand Chowk. In the initial phase, Taj Group and Hyatt group have shown interest for construction of a Five Star Hotel. These groups have sought information from Housing board about the land where the hotel will come up.

Apart from Taj and Hyatt group, Ramada group, Lemon Tree premier, Ginger Hotel, BK group and BNR have shown interest for setting up the hotel at the proposed land. As per Housing Board proposal, the five star hotels will come up at an area of 2 acres. The Housing Board will lease the proposed land (2 acres) at an estimated cost of Rs 33 lakh per decimal.  On Monday, the Housing Board conducted a pre bid meeting, which was attended by representatives from various hotel groups. From Housing board its managing director (MD) Brijmohan Kumar attended the meet. Kumar at the meeting briefed about the development taken in the construction of hotel. Kumar after the presentation briefed the hotel group representatives about various suggestions. Sources said that Housing department has invited proposals from different hotel groups by July 15, however, different hotel groups present at the pre bid meeting urged the housing board to extend the deadline for submission of proposals. Sources said that by August 14, the board will start the process of e-auctioning of the hotel.

Sources said that the land, where the Five Star Hotel will come up, has an area of 5.5 acres, out of which 2 to 4 acres will be provided to hotel group for construction of hotel. Brijmohan Kumar said, “Out of total 5.5 acres of land, in the initial phase we will provide 2 to 4 acres of land for construction of hotel. The group, which will be selected for the project has to complete the project within three years.”

Kumar further said, “The hotel will have all the features of five star hotel. There will be 120 rooms with adequate parking facilities for visitors.” At the pre bid meeting different hotel groups raised the query that the land lease price (Rs 33 lakh per decimal) is much higher, but the board officials pleaded that they had no role in fixing the land price.

The construction of five star hotel at State capital is pending for years, however in October last year the State housing department first invited potential hotel groups for construction of five star hotel in the State Capital. The five star hotel project gained momentum last month after Cabinet gave its nod for construction of hotel at Sahajanand Chowk (Harmu).

The proposed Five Star Hotel at Harmu will be second Five Star Hotel in the State Capital as already Radisson Blue a five star hotel is located in Ranchi.
