Five persons surrender before court

Just a few hours after Jharkhand Assembly was adjourned after JMM legislators stalled the House against the bloodbath which took place in Silli, five persons who have been named in the FIR surrendered before a Ranchi court on Thursday.

According to the FIR registered by one of the survivors of the bloodbath, two persons were killed by the five accused, who pulled them out of the houses for voting in favour of JMM during the recently held Assembly polls. At least four JMM workers have been killed in Rahe and Angara blocks under Silli Assembly constituency in the last fortnight.

“The way local police were trying to shield the culprits by diverting the issue and not arresting the real culprits, raises a doubt over the intentions of the police giving indications of some political conspiracy in the matter,” said Bahragora MlA Kunal Sarangi.

According to Sarangi, the local DSP suggested former CM Hemant Soren to avoid visiting the area, citing security reasons on Wednesday when he was informed about his visit. “How state government can provide security to a common man if it could not provide security to a former CM of this state,” added Sarangi.

list of the accused persons, who surrendered before the police includes the name of – Anil Mahto, Rangbahadur Mahto, Suresh Mahto, Suresh Munda and Fanibhushan Mahto.

Silli remained closed on Tuesday after a day-long bandh was called by JMM against the killing of its party workers. Former Chief Minister Hemant Soren also visited the family members of the victims on Wednesday, demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the case failing which extensive protests will be launched by the party workers.

Terming these killings as political killings, Soren demanded a high level inquiry into the matter. Soren, without naming any political party, said that the killings, which took place just after the election results were declared, smells something fishy, which must be investigated by some independent agency.
