Fire Dept put on alert for Deepawali

In the wake of coming Diwali the Fire Department has cancelled the leave of the firemen and put everyone on alert mode to avoid any untoward incident during the festival. Officials in the Fire Services Department said that necessary directions have also been issued to all the districts which need to be followed for Dipawali.

“Although, we are always on alert mode, but taking extra precautions, all fire stations have been put on alert mode in the wake of Diwali and have been asked to take quick response in case any information related to the outbreak of fire is received by them,” said State Fire Officer RK Thakur. As many as 25 fire tenders in Ranchi have also been put on ready mode to deal with any unwanted situation, he added.

Thakur further said that the Deputy Commissioners all over the State have also been passed required directions not to allow any unauthorised cracker shop in their areas which may cause fire as they do not have any fire safety instruments with them.

“Meanwhile, the leave applications of firemen have also been cancelled to deal with any untoward situation on the festival of crackers,” said Thakur. He however, also appealed people to take extra precaution while firing crackers on Diwali and abide by the directions passed by the Fire Department.

“One should wear full sleeve clothes while firing cracker and must keep a bucket of water with them to put it on the injury caused by the cracker. Children must fire crackers in presence of elders,’ said Thakur. The State Fire Officer also advised only to use branded crackers as there were fewer chances that it would burst before time.

Alerted over the recent incident killing at least 10 persons following a blaze in cracker factory in Baharagora, the District Administration in Ranchi took extra precaution and issued a directive putting a ban on haphazard sale of firecrackers in the State Capital and confined the sale to Morhabadi and Harmu grounds. According to the directive if the small retailers were found infringing the guidelines, immediate action will be taken against the defaulters.

Incidentally, at least ten persons were killed while several dozens were critically burnt in a blaze caused by a blast in an illegal fire cracker factory in Kumardubi village under Barsole police station area at Baharagora last month. Many people are suspected to have been trapped in the buildings which were on fire till late night.
