A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at Hindpirhi police station on Wednesday in one of the biggest heist of Jharkhand in the recent times.

According to the FIR, the burglars took away jewellery worth Rs 12.25 crore, which was kept for display at Anand Jewellers at Main Road in Ranchi on Tuesday. Police, however, suspect it a handiwork of an insider who had all the knowledge about the activities inside the shop. “Though this has been done by a professional gang but the way the thieves broke-in, suggests that it cannot be done without the help of an insider who has all the knowledge about the position of burglar’s alarm and CCTV cameras placed in the shop,” said SP City Manoj Ratan Chauthe.

The FIR has been lodged at Hindpirhi Police Station by the proprietor of the shop claiming a total theft of jewellery worth Rs 12.25 crore. “An FIR of theft of Rs 12,25, 49,619 has been lodged with us and we have started taking action on it,” said officer in charge of Hindpirhi Police station Pramod Kumar Singh. A list of jewelleries taken away by the thieves has also been attached with the FIR, he added.

“As no one is able to say anything about it right now, we will be able to disclose anything after a thorough investigation,” he added. On the other hand police have also called a team from Forensic Science laboratory (FSl) to assist in the investigation. The burglary took place between Saturday and Tuesday during Durga Puja where the burglars broke-in from the top of the building by cutting the grill by the help of a cutter which they had brought with them and subsequently cut other gates with the same cutter.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Jewellers’ association during an emergency meeting has registered its protest against the burglary and expressed dissatisfaction over the action taken by the police in the burglary cases in jewelry shops which took place in the recent times.
