After several rounds of pursuance and perseverance, an FIR was finally lodged against NCC Infrastructure, builder of National Games Housing Complex at Hotwar, with Sadar Police Station in Ranchi on Saturday. An on-line complaint had been registered by Prof Ashok Roy on June 15 through his son Satyarshi Kunal from New Delhi after he received back injuries due to ill maintenance of lift.
“I have followed up the case and an FIR has been registered by the concerned OC,” said Ranchi SSP Prabhat Kumar. The 62-year-old Professor of Mechanical Engineer at the Cambridge Institute of Technology had a close shave when he entered an empty lift from the first floor and hit on the ground floor. Though the incident took place on June 15, Professor’s lawyer son in Delhi High Court registered a complaint via e-mail with the police top brass on Thursday.
“I went to the victim’s house yesterday and have received a written copy of the FIR from him,” said Sadar OC KS Anand. A preliminary inquiry has also been started after lodging the FIR formally in this regard, added Anand. The victim also asserted that Anand visited to his home on Saturday evening and took away a written copy of the complaint, assuring that the copy of it will be sent to him very soon.
“The Sadar PS OC came here yesterday and demanded a written copy of the complaint which I readily provided. He said that he will soon get back to me with the copy of the FIR registered with him, added Roy. Roy further added that due to negligent attitude of the maintenance staff of the company, any serious accident might happen with anyone living in the housing complex having as many as 32 towers in it. Each tower consists of 33 flats in it.
“There is no light in the common area, or they put lights in the area of their choice. There is no proper maintenance of lifts in the complex and the person responsible of it is never available for us,” Roy added.Recollecting the horrible moment on June 15, he said that he was returning from the college as usual at around 5:30 pm in the evening and tried to enter the lift but the door could not be opened, which a usual phenomena, so he went to the first floor to catch the lift.
“As it was a regular practice, finding the door of the lift open, I happily entered it, but to my surprise, there were no lift there and I fell deep into it to the ground floor.
Making it worse, suddenly I found that the lift was coming downwards, so to save my life, I somehow managed to open the sucked lift-gate and jumped out of the lift-pit taking help of the shock absorber in it,” said Roy.
As there were no one around, he gathered more courage and again took the lift for his fourth floor flat, but the lift ditching him once again went up to the fifth floor. Roy somehow dragged himself to the fourth floor through the stairs and finally got into his flat where he lives along with his wife.
A day after, Roy went to the doctor and found that there were no internal injury but was advised for a complete bed rest due to pain in his waist. “Although, there is no internal pain, it is impossible for me to move out of bed due to pain around the waistline,” he said.
