District Cooperative Officer louis Toppo on Wednesday registered multiple FIRs against seven rice mill owners of Hazaribagh for making crores of rupees by fraudulent means, validating the talks in Hazaribagh that the rice mill owners are cheating the Government and a scam is going on here with the connivance of some officers and rice mill owners.
The tale relates to years 2012-13 and 2013-14. The Government purchased paddy from the peasants through different cooperatives (PACS). As per Government’s directive the district administration negotiated with the nearest rice mills and an agreement was made according to which the rice mills agreed to give 68 per cent rice or its price for the paddy given to them.
Hazaribagh district administration gave paddy to seven such rice mills who neither gave rice nor its price. It came in light last year but again the paddy was given to these mills. It was in talks that with the connivance of some Government officials and staff members, the rice mill owners took time again and again with a motive that the file will be lost or destroyed but they failed in their attempts.
