FIR against Saryu Roy for ‘leaking’ official documents

Published on:

The State Health department has lodged a case against independent MLA Saryu

Roy under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Official Secrets Act at

Doranda police station for allegedly leaking official documents.

The Health department is headed by Banna Gupta, who is under fire from Roy for

allegedly misusing his office and disbursing Covid incentives equivalent to one

month’s basic salary to 60 employees (including him) illegally and unethically.

The case has been filled by Health department undersecretary Vijay Verma and he

has been booked under various sections of Official Secret Act 1923 besides 409

(criminal breach of trust by public servant), 420 (cheating and thereby dishonestly

inducing delivery of property), 379 (theft), 120( conspiracy)  among others of IPC.

It has been alleged that Roy stole secret documents from the health department and

made it public.

Confirming the development, City SP Anhsuman Kumar said, “Yes an FIR has

been lodged against Roy.” But, he refused to divulge more details.

Meanwhile, Roy termed the Government act as ‘foolish’ and ‘novice’. He said that

documents which he had made public can be obtained through the Right to

Information Act. He further said, “Government can lodge an FIR and can even

arrest me, but I am not scared of such acts of government. I have been fighting

against corruption since 1982 and will do so in future too.”

Sources said that this is not for the first time that any minister is under fire from

Roy. Saryu Roy was one of the key whistleblowers in the Rs 900 crore fodder

scam. He along with others including Shivanand Tiwari, who is presently with

RJD had brought charges of corruption against Lalu Prasad in Rs 900 crore fodder

scam in early nineties.

When Roy was with BJP he had questioned his own government. He had filed a

petition against the state mining department, state advocate general, Moharda

water project and even raised the drainage and sewerage project by Singapore-

based Meinhardt (Singapore) Pte Ltd in the state capital of Ranchi.

Later, Roy was removed from BJP for contesting against then Chief Minister

Raghubar Das.

After quitting the BJP after being denied a party ticket, Saryu Roy beat former

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das in the Jamshedpur (East) constituency in

2019.
