A bereaved son on Sunday lodged an FIR against the director of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and some doctors with the Bariatu police station accusing them of killing his mother, who died of Black Fungus post-surgery.

The complainant, Gaurav Gupta, a native of Giridih district lodged an FIR on Sunday after his mother, Usha Devi, took her last breath at RIMS. Police was deployed on RIMS campus as a precaution. However, the family members quietly received the body and performed last rites at Harmu cremation ground.

“FIR has been lodged against RIMS director and others. Now the matter will be investigated,” an official of Bariatu police station said. However, the official did not disclose under which sections of the IPC the FIR was lodged and who else have been named as accused other than the RIMS director.

Reliable sources said that the FIR was also lodged against RIMS medical superintendent Vivek Kashyap, doctors Sanjay Kumar, CK Birua, Manish, Ayush, Alok, Priya and Rakesh Choudhary.

The deceased woman was operated by doctors at RIMS on July 8 only after Jharkhand High Court slammed the state government for its callous attitude towards poor patients of black fungus dying a painful death due to lack of money. Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan had expressed shock that how someone in the government can say that government has no money and such patients should sale their land and property for treatment.

In fact, Gupta and his family members had to peacefully demonstrate to get early treatment of Usha Devi who developed black fungus two months back.  The High court had taken a suo motu cognizance of this matter. The High Court said that it was unbecoming on the part of PA of the Chief Minister saying that the Jharkhand government does not have money for treatment of patients and citizens should arrange money for their own treatment by selling their place and land. The high court had also asked the Jharkhand government about arrangements made for the treatment of the victim woman at a time when black fungus has been declared as pandemic.
