FIR against Moitra in Ranchi for Kaali poster remark

Published on:

Amid huge uproar across the country over the poster of the film ‘Kaali’, several social and religious organizations in Ranchi today registered an FIR against TMC MP Mahua Moitra, Leena Manimekakali and others associated with the film at Kotwali police station. At the same time BJP demanding strict action against Moitra and others who has the habit of disrespecting Hindu God and Goddess.

Earlier, the social organisation and religious outfit before FIR was registered, a demonstration was also staged on Zila School premises. The demonstrators cutting across party lines staged the dharna.  Among the protestors, Congress spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan was also noticed with office bearers of Ranchi Yuva Mahanagar Ramnavmi Puja Committee and other organisations.

Controversy over the poster of the film ‘Kaali’ started in Toronto in Canada, where Leena released the poster of the documentary film made on Kali. On July 2, Leena released the poster on Twitter and then it was shown at the Aga Khan Museum in Canada.

Canada-based Indians lodged an objection against the poster before the High Commission. For now, Twitter has removed the tweet containing the ‘Kaali’ poster of filmmaker Leena.

The BJP leadership in State has sought the arrest of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus with her controversial remarks on Goddess Kali.

The  BJP went at the remark hammer and tongs and wondered if the ruling party of West Bengal had adopted a policy of "insulting Hindu gods and goddesses."

"According to the norms of the Sanatan Hindu dharma, Goddess Kali is never worshipped as a goddess who consumes alcohol and meat. Hindus had been revering Goddess Kali for ages as a symbol of power against evil. Her comments have hurt religious sentiments. We demand her arrest in the light of the statement against Goddess Kali," BJP state spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo said.

The TMC government and the state police have been very active in seeking police action against Nupur Sharma. But they have not taken any action against Mahua Moitra. There can't be a different set of rules for BJP and TMC leaders, said the BJP leader.
