The Palamu district administration on Tuesday lodged an FIR against Congress candidate Devender Singh alias Bittu Singh, who is in the bypoll fray from Panki assembly constituency.

Palamu SP Patel Mayur K lal said the FIR was drawn by the Tarhassi police station on the basis of information that the Congress candidate was seeking assistance from one naxal Manohar for his poll. DIG Palamu Saket Kumar Singh said lodging the FIR is a legal course of action in such a matter.

Sources said the Special Branch sleuths intercepted the conversation of Bittu Singh seeking help from the naxal who is of the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit.

Meanwhile, the Congress termed this as a vindictive attitude of those who call shots in the corridor of power. “Only time would tell about the charges but one thing is very clear that the Government of the day has made the officials puppets there in the name of transfer and posting. The District administration is hapless under intense intimidation and its effect can be viewed on their

functioning over there,” said

senior Congress leader and former Ranchi MP Subodh Kant Sahayon Tuesday.

Sahay, who returned on Tuesday after campaigning in the constituency undergoing poll on May 16, accused the BJP Government of influencing voters in the constituency.

“They are distributing

transformers and many of those have been apprehended by villagers. Big financers of the party are camping in the area to influence the

election,” said Sahay who also demanded from the Election Commission to take note of it and work effectively by acting against “sycophant officials”.
