Hazaribagh district administration on Wednesday lodged an FIR against Congress’ Barkagaon MLA Amba Prasad at Katkamdag police station   for obstructing and threatening Government officials from discharging their duty.

The Congress is part of the JMM led Government and her father Yogendra Sao and mother Nirmala Devi are former MLAs of Barkagaon.

Hazaribagh witnessed a high voltage drama on Monday when the circle officer of Katkamdag seized nine tractors as part of a drive against illegal sand mining. Sand was transported from these tractors. District administration claimed that these tractors had no paper or permit for the same.

On the way to the police station, the driver of one of the tractors fled away along with the tractor. Remaining eight tractors were taken to the police station.   The MLA too came to know about the seizure of tractors and she came to the police station. District administration alleged that the MLA opposed seizure of the tractors and pressured the administration to release these tractors. She also prevented officials from carrying legal procedures. Amid the brawl drivers of six tractors fled away along with tractors which were parked out of the police station premise. District administration alleged that the MLA provoked her supporters and drivers to run away along with tractors.

The MLA also lodged an FIR and alleged that police personnel at the police station assaulted and misbehaved with her driver and bodyguard. Hazaribagh SP Kartik S said that police will investigate both FIRs. He added that the entire matter is related to illegal sand mining. Notably, according to the National Green Tribunal the sand mining remains banned nationally during the monsoon period. The ban remains effective till July.
