Ranchi police on Friday lodged an FIR against City DSP Shabhu Kumar Singh and Officer in Charge of Chutia police station Ajay Kumar Verma at Kotwali Police Station in the alleged suicide case of one Shiv Saroj Kumar, which took place on Thursday.
Kumar hailing from Dhanbad allegedly ended his life after forwarding his suicide note to the PMO and other top police officials in the State Government alleging atrocities by police officials in the name of interrogation.
“An FIR has been lodged in the case on the basis of statement recorded by Kumar’s father Suresh Kumar on Thursday with Kotwali Police,” said DIG AV Homkar. Meanwhile, the CID has taken over the case which will be investigating the case further, he added.
Meanwhile, several facts have come out during preliminary investigations being done by police which has claimed that Kumar was not abducted by anybody as no black Scorpio, as claimed by him, was seen passing through that side on July 29 in the CCTV footage.
Both the OC and DSP have been booked under Section 306 of IPC for allegedly torturing Kumar mentally and physically and his father.
“Some of the independent eye-witnesses, identified by the police, have also admitted that they have seen him coming near Ranchi lake alone and no one dropped him there,” said a top police official requesting anonymity. His father during interrogation also admitted that he was planning to visit Delhi to check his son’s activities due to which his son came down to Ranchi, making an excuse of passport verification to avoid his visit, said the police officer.
Though, police are yet reached to any conclusion in the case, it apprehends that Kumar took such an extreme step after he got exposed before his father that he was not an IB officer. According to police official, Kumar had told his father he was an IB (Intelligence Bureau) officer and had also produced a document in this regard before it, which was later found forged.
An unnatural death case was registered at Kotwali Police Station on Thursday on the basis of statement recorded by Kumar’s father.
Incidentally, Kumar was recovered by police on July 30 last in unconscious situation from Station Road under Chutia police station who was admitted to RIMS and was later taken to Medica Hospital on July 31. Kumar was discharged on August 1 following which he went to Chutia police station the same day to register his complaint where he was allegedly tortured by the police.
Kumar, according to police, claimed to be an IB officer and had been abducted by some unidentified persons.
The body of Kumar was found hanging from a tree near Nagarmal Modi Seva Sadan in Ranchi on Thursday. In his suicide note forwarded to the PMO, Kumar has held Officer in-Charge and City DSP directly responsible for his death.
