FIR against beneficiaries of PMAY

Ranka police have  registered FIR against 135 beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana under criminal breach of trust on Saturday. BDO of Ranka Mohalad Parvej said, "We had issued notices to the beneficiaries several times to complete the construction of their houses. But, even after the notices, there was no effect on the beneficiaries and the construction did not start.

When it was investigated, it was found that some of beneficiaries who did not start work are not in their village. They have migrated in other states in search of job."

Beneficiaries have not completed the construction work after taking several installments under the scheme.

The beneficiaries against whom the FIRs have been lodged said the FIRs are unfair and they are being victimised and also alleged that FIRs had been lodged to put pressure on them to complete the construction of the house quickly.

District Board member of Ranka block Uma Devi said, “The government’s scheme is flawed. Beneficiaries are given Rs 2.25 lakh in the urban area while in rural areas they have given only Rs 1.5  lakhs, which is not sufficient.

The FIRs are being registered only to put pressure to meet the target,” she said.
