Fear of 'honey trap' keeps Mahuadarn police on toes

A piquant situation had arisen recently in the Mahuadarn police station in latehar district wherein the locals handed over one woman and two girls suspecting them to be ‘honey trap’ or pick pockets, said sources.

Sources said the trio were caught by the locals during Haat days in Mahuadarn. The three came from Kusmi in Chhattisgarh a distance of about 35 kilometres ostensibly to buy provisions but their movement, gait and dress attracted the locals who suspected them to be ‘honey trap’ or pick pockets.

Mahuadarn DSP Om Prakash Tiwary has confirmed this episode of detaining three — one woman and two girls, saying further the three although came from rural setting of Kusmi but had signs of face and hair do as ‘threading’ was evident on their faces.

DSP Tiwary at first sight ruled out their being any honey trap on village Haat days but said there had been incidents of honey trapping in the past when women/girls from Chhatisgarh in the garb of attending village Haats in Mahuadarn have lured the gullible youth of this place.

The DSP added, “I have been here since only three months time and during this period I have ensured that nothing untoward occurs if women from across the State come here with any under cover design or mission.”

“The three were quizzed in the presence of the women cops but nothing fishy or suspicious could come out and hence they were let off since the locals who so handed over them to the Mahuadarn police also did not give any complaint in writing,” added DSP Tiwary.

Mahuadarn is a highly tribal dominated  place and here coming and going out of females from Chhatisgarh on two Haat Days keep police on alert reiterated Tiwary.

It is only in the village Haat Days that one can get provisions of food and other things for a week as ‘ I feel crying when I donot get veggies like bhindi, parwal on days when there is no haat around here’  said Tiwary with a sense of pain.
