Now cops will be able to share a meal with their family members and friends as latehar police line mess has started offering food to cops’ family members and friends too.
The food for them has been priced at `35 a thali. Eaters can select between veg and non-veg items at the same price.
DIG of police Palamu Saket Kumar Singh inaugurated the mess in latehar.
However, there is more to this mess than mere serving food to cops, family members and friends at such a low price, It is also free of any caste tag. Sources in the police set up confirm that messes in police lines all over the State are segragated on caste basis such as brahmin mess, rajput mess, bhumihar mess, muslim mess, dalit mess etc.
DG of police D K Pandey dreams of the day when there is no separation of a mess on caste basis in any police line in Jharkhand.
Speaking to The Pioneer DGP D K Pandey said “I feel too happy that DIG police Palamu has inaugurated a mess in latehar police line which is for one and all and I wish more such messes to come up in other police lines”. DGP lauded the efforts of Saket K Singh.
DIG of police Palamu too said “I got the inspiration from the directive of DGP who is for a tagless mess in the police line”.
DIG Saket had a point when he said, “In long range patrolling or in anti-naxal operations jawans and officials drawn from various forces eat food together and no one asks then as to in which mess the food has been prepared”.
Saket explaining this attitude of cops towards food added, “During operation or while fighting against naxals the food is not cops’ top priority and that’s the reason that ready to use food is partaken by cops”.
Mess in police line is different from any other canteen Saket reminded as he said, “chai pakora is available with cold drinks whereas in a mess you get food to live on”.
DIG Palamu has one more thing on the anvil. It is the sleeping space of the cops. He wants this to be numbered too.
He said, “If cop number 123 is transferred then comes another cop from another place/district having same number then in that case this newcomer is to have the same sleeping place”.
He meant a big thing. Sources said DIG police wants cops not to have sleeping closet too on any caste line!
