In a bizarre incident, a ‘fake’ doctor named Akhilesh was found willing to join the State’s premiere medical cradle, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Thursday.Sources said he was constantly visiting Cardiology department’s Associate Professor Dr Hemant Narayan Rai since Tuesday, urging to allow him work in the Cardio-Therapist Vascular Surgery department which is not under Rai.
So, Rai denied to allow him to join and suggested to seek the permission of Director-in-Charge Dr SK Choudhary for joining. “I do not have the authority to make someone join. So, I took him to Director Choudhary on Wednesday. Again, on Thursday when I took him to the Director, the latter failed to recognise him stating that he was not the candidate called for the interview for Assistant Professor’s post. Instead, someone named Rupesh was chosen,” said Rai.On Thursday, Akhilesh was locked inside a room for around three hours wherein Security In-Charge Bablu Khan, Dr VK Prajapati, Dr Vivek Kashyap, the Director-in-Charge himself and two more doctors were present. “All of them forced me to blame Dr Hemant Narayan Rai. They told me to confess that Rai made me join,” Akhilesh told mediapersons after coming out of the room.
The fake doctor was unable to show documents of his medical qualifications but claimed a pass-out of AIIMS, New Delhi. Asked how he came to RIMS, Akhilesh said, “I was an applicant for the interview. Few days back, I got a call from a landline number assuring me to join the medical institution without being selected. But today when I called the same number no one responded. It was from RIMS.”Unable to find a way out, the RIMS administration informed Bariatu police station. “We are interrogating him. It has not been confirmed whether he is fake or not,” said the Officer-in-Charge of Bariatu police station.Rai also said that Akhilesh hesitated to meet Choudhary on Wednesday. A staff on the condition of anonymity said Akhilesh wanted to do an operation on Wednesday but the nurses refused.
