Air conditioner is the symbol given here to the Independent in Palamu. Another symbol given is 'Maze'. If air conditioner is a rich man's house luxury maze is a typical Urdu word not many knowing its meaning that it is a table.

Many political party workers across the parties said the symbols should be eye catching and well known. They quipped as to how many poor rural voters have the ability to distinguish an air conditioner with /from a buksa (box).

They had a point when they said Auto rickshaw symbol has also been given while in Palamu people in the town and in the rural areas call auto rickshaw by the name of Tempo. The allotment official document reads auto rickshaw and not tempo.

Rickshaws are quite a common sight but it is not a symbol. The Bharatiya Suraaj Dal chief P K Siddharth said it would have been good if someone was given rickshaw. His Suraaj Dal has flute symbol. And a pipe with holes resembling the holes of a bansoorri makes up for his poll symbol.

The symbol distribution here in the Daltonganj assembly constituency was an excitement full affair on November 10. Two Independents wanted Selai machine. On was Dilip Singh Namdhari who was being represented by his father Inder Singh Namdhari who had placed this demand before the RO Surender K Verma. There was another candidate B Singh who too wanted the same sewing machine symbol.

The lots were drawn which declared Namdhari the gainer of this symbol. The sewing machine isawell known symbol even in the rural areas where darzee (tailor) is an in thing.  One candidate preferring anonymity said symbols like snake, wolf, dog etc cannot be given as it typifies the man who wears or takes it.
