To cope up with the changing circumstances, State Police will now emphasise more on professionalism and also introduce specialised training to the police officers.

As per the recent orders issued from the DGP office, eligibility criteria for the trainers has also been fixed for specialised training, both internal and external.

“As per the new orders, we will have a panel of specialised trainers, both internal and external, to enhance professionalism and impart better training facility to the police personnel,” said IG (Operations) and Jharkhand Police spokesperson Ashish Batra. Now, the emphasis will be on imparting more training on behavioral aspects as policing is seen more as a service delivery mechanism, he added.

“Focus will be on better public response and humble behavior of policemen towards common people,” added Batra.

Performance of the panel will be reviewed every year so that performance evaluation of the people in it could be done regularly. Trainers in the panel will also further train the police personnel so that continuity could be maintained. “This is just to bring in professionalism in police force,” IG said.

To keep a pace with the developments in the society, one has to become more professional, Batra said.

“As it is an era of specialization, we also need specialized people to impart specialized training to the police personnel,” Batra said. The panel will have 5-7 people in it only to broaden the availability of the pool of the resource personnel to avoid any crisis at the time of training, he added.

As specialised aspect has also been rooted in the functioning of police department, specialised and skillful people are also required in it for training purposes and could be hired from outside the police force.

“If they are there in the panel they will get a kind of accreditation and could be called anytime for delivering lectures and imparting specialised training for them,” he said.

Qualifications for the trainers have also been fixed in the new order where BTech in Information Technology candidates will be given preference for the appointment of trainers in the field of cyber crime, computer and technical subjects.

The last order in this regard was issued in 2005 which was cancelled and a fresh order was issued from the DGP office also paving way for the appointment of trainers for indoor subjects. Earlier, there were provisions for the appointment of trainers for only outdoor subjects. A five-member team headed by IG Training has also been formed for the selection of trainers.

Other members in the team include DIG, Jungle Warfare School, Netarhat, Joint Director, Police Academy Hazaribagh, SP, JAP Training School Padma and SP, Constable Training College Musabani.

The Selection Committee has also been given the responsibility to assess the requirement of trainers in different police training centres and conduct interviews of those police officials and personnel who fulfill the required qualification for the same. The selection committee has also been assigned to prepare the panel of trainers.
