Bodyguard of BJP leader and former minister Baidyanath Ram Vijay Kumar Rajak, who painted a blot on the country’s flagship Swachh Bharat Abhiyan firing at a Health Inspector who was discharging his duty at Ranchi Railway Station, was sent to jail on Thursday.

Rajak had come to see of the Minister and his kin travelling to Delhi by Rajdhani Express on Wednesday evening while he fired at Health Inspector Kumar after an alleged verbal spat resulting into a scuffle.

The General Railway Police (GRP) said that according eyewitnesses, Kumar had requested Rajak to not litterat the station premise and use the dustbin. The two had heated verbal talks and then Rajak drew his semi-automatic rifle and fired at Kumar, who luckily escaped unhurt in the incident.

AK Singh OC GRP said, “The police constable has been sent to jail on charges of IPC 341(Punishment for wrongful restraint), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 307 (Attempt to murder) and 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).”

Although there was no word from the former state Minister Baidyanath Ram on the issue, his kin were spotted on the Railway Station on Thursday in a bid to facilitate Rajak some respite from the law, said the local officials.

The arrested bodyguard Rajak said the Health Inspector slapped the minister’s niece and this proved him to stop the health inspector and during the scuffle to stop him the firing incident occurred inadvertently.

The issue was reportedly taken up by the Prime Minister’s Office, which is said to have sought report from railway authorities. However Ranchi Sr DCM Neeraj Kumar denied receiving any information on it

saying that if it’s a ministerial level notice it would take some time to reach the Rail division.
