Ex-college student alleges sexual abuse for 3 years

A shocking case of sexual exploitation for over three years came to light when the victim, a 21-year-old girl from Mosabani block, on Tuesday approached the senior superintendent of police office, crying foul and seeking justice.

The victim, who was a former student of city-based Graduate School College for Women, had to come to the SSP’s office after the District Women’s Grievance Cell allegedly refused to register a case against the accused person.

Sharing her tragedy before newsmen, the victim said that she had befriended one Shiv Kumar Mahali in 2008, when she used to study at the Graduate School College for Women. She said the accused, who used to work as an agent in the ICICI Bank in Jamshedpur, had become close with her as they came across on several occasions at the Tatanagar station while going to Mosabani.

“We became closer with each passing day and after sometime, Mahali forced a physical relationship with me by promising that he would marry me. He also claimed to be fair in conduct. But to my shock, in March, I came to know that Mahali had already married another girl in 2012. I decided to protest when I came to know that I was duped by him,” she said.

She said that she has submitted a plea at the SSP office and wanted justice. “I have been exploited and want action against Mahali,” she said.

Prior to coming to the SSP office, the girl had also approached a city-based NGO, Mother Teresa Welfare Trust, with its office at Telco, and accompanied the Trust’s chairman Harpal Singh to the SSP office.

The district women’s grievance cell in-charge, M Guria, however, claimed that she had never refused to register a case, and had asked the girl to bring her parents to the cell so that she may not face any difficulty in contesting the case later on.

The cell in-charge admitted that she had tried to convince the girl that if she was ready, then she may live with Mahali as wife, as his parents were also agreed to accept her.
