On Sunday morning an ex-army man Satyanarayan Mehta, a resident of Romi village of Padma block of Hazaribagh district killed his wife Poonam Devi with the help of an axe and then himself informed the villagers about his act.
The villagers informed Padma PS about the incident and then the police team reached the village, arrested Mehta and sends the body for postmortem to Hazaribagh sadar hospital.
According to sources Ex-army man Satyanarayan Mehta son of Ex-army man Jaylal Mahto was married with Poonam Devi about 18 years ago. Since last more than two years, after retirement he was living in the village with his family members. Satyanarayan and Poonam has two daughters of age 16 and 12 respectively.
After killing his wife Satyanarayan said to the villagers that she had illicit relationship with some other and since last few months she was pressurising him to name the property on her name. He openly said to the villagers that I first used knife but when she didn’t died then used the axe of the house to cut her neck.
Satyanarayan repeated this statement in the police station also but neither the villagers nor the police is taking it as truth. The villagers said that the deceased Poonam Devi was a fine lady and the Mehta family had never complained about it to anybody in the village. During service he had lost his mental balance and at that time the army has sent him back to the village on long leave. Police has started investigation keeping in mind this important information.
His father and family men are in shock with this brutal behavior of Satyanarayan, however they have not said anything on this incident and perhaps after the cremation they will tell the truth to the police.
