Paving way for construction of the eagerly awaited and much delayed road overbridge near Jugsalai railway crossing, the East Singhbhum district administration on Monday launched a massive eviction drive to clear encroachments.
led by Dhalbhum SDO Suraj Kumar the team equipped with four earthmovers removed temporary structures both on railway area and Tata Steel lease area. Senior administrative officials including deputy collector land revenue Manoj Kumar Ranjan and circle officer Jamshedpur Manoj Kumar also coordinated with the SDO in carrying out the drive.
“We want to make sure that there is no encroachment. The railway had submitted a list of 42 structures which had been encroached on its areas while there were nearly 47 structures which had come up on Tata Steel lease areas. The eviction drive will continue even tomorrow till all the encroached structures are razed,” said Suraj Kumar.
With over 250 police force comprising jawans from Rapid Action Force (RAF), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) and district police under two senior police officials DSP law and order, B. N Singh and DSP traffic Vivekananda Thakur, the administration make sure that there is proper arrangement.
Moreover, the railway has finalised the blueprint for the Rs 21.54 crore project. The road over bridge was a long pending demand of the people residing at Jugsalai. Sources informed that of the 21.54 crores, 9.77 crores will be spent by the railway, where as the remaining Rs 11.77 crores will be borne by the state government.
The road over bridge would ensure smooth traffic and avoid decongestion as the commuters face it now while crossing the level crossing. The existing Jugsalai roundabout will remain where it is not, but its size will be reduced mariginally.
After pressure from local representatives, the state road construction division had carried out a survey earlier this year and submitted the proposed area for construction of the approach for the railway overbridge and the encroached structures which had made the administration to go for the demolition drive.
Meanwhile, the district administration and railway administration has recently showed the plan of the proposed road over-bridge project to the local residents who have their buildings. Majority of the locals going to be affected with the project have given their consent for the construction of the road over-bridge
Meanwhile, the drive near the Jugsalai railway crossing had led to traffic snarl on the important Jugsalai-Tatanagar Station stretch of the road for several hours causing discomfort for commuters.
Nearly 45 shops including around 15 khatals (cow sheds) found encroached on Tata Steel lease areas were demolished during the drive while in the railway area around 34 temporary structures had been demolished till the filing of this report.
