Palamau police range has got a new DIG in Akhilesh Jha. He has replaced Saket Kumar Singh who has been sent to Bokaro. Jha has come to this leftwing extremist hit range when rains are around, the season quite favourable for the ultras. The Pioneer spoke to the DIG to know how he would embark upon his new assignment which is also his maiden posting in this rank.
How as DIG will you go about policing here IJ
Policing ought to be evaluated on many counts. First is the response of the police to situation. I make an analogy of policing with a doctor. A doctor is assessed by the way he responds to the need of the ailing one. You cannot say a doctor is good or bad unless his method/approach of treatment is well assessed. Here too response of the police tops the chart. If a case/offence/crime/property crime has taken place then see if it stands detected or not. Accused is identified and arrested or not. Property so robbed of or looted is recovered or not. Crimes will occur. It has occurred in the past. It will happen too. The most important thing is how the police have handled it.
The Maoists’s led extremism has its vestige still left in huge quantity in parts of latehar where recovery of Maoists’ deadly material has become any day’s affair. Will latehar be first on your radarIJ
My focal point will be on all my three districts lying in this range Palamu Garhwa and latehar but if I am to set my priorities this latehar district will be right on the top of my list. The work of police is manifold. It is not that fighting extremism is the one and only job. There are issues of investigation law and order man management etc. Naxals from Bihar come here in the bordering areas of this range for a big pull at mugs of wine and go back but drugs from Bihar’s Dehri On Sone reach here and destroy youth of this range.
