Environmental conditions still not worsened in J'khand: Roy

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Saryu Roy said that the environmental conditions in Jharkhand have still not worsened to the extent that it cannot be restored, and it only needed State Government to implement the provisions of environmental conservation in an effective and efficient way to solve environmental problems.

Roy, while expressing his views during a seminar organised on the occasion of World Earth Day in Ranchi, also added that the techniques have brought earth to this state which could only be corrected with the help of techniques.

The seminar was organised jointly by Yugantar Bharti and Nature Foundation working in the field of Environmental Conservation. “In Jharkhand the State Government will have to implement the provisions of environmental conservation in an effective and efficient way and also praise the works done by social activists and other organisations in the field to promote the cause,” said Roy.

Environmental conditions in Jharkhand are still not so bad and the problem areas could be corrected very easily by minimal efforts made by the State Government and the social activists, he added.

Roy was of the view that the current environmental problem arose due to the development of techniques in the world which could be restored only with the efforts made by using advanced techniques taking care of environment conservation.

“Earth should also be considered as a biological unit like a human body and think about it like we think our own body and see the changes in it. Situation is more dangerous as we are told by the scientists. This danger could be averted only after we control our acidities at individual level voluntarily,” said Roy.

The Minister said that environment also has to be made a political agenda inducting it primarily into the election manifestos by the political parties.

“When we had started the work of cleaning Damodar River 13 years back, nobody believed that the world’s most polluted river could ever be cleaned, but the pledge taken by us was completed successfully with people’s support and people’s pressure without spending a single rupee of the State Government,” said Roy. He also gave detailed outline about the weeklong Environmental Fair being organized in Audrey House in Ranchi.

Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Sanjay Kumar, warning the audience about the unexpected rise in temperature due to ‘Global Warming’ which could also lead to an end of this beautiful world.

“The problem we are currently facing could not be solved with small efforts as temperature of earth is rising day by day due to of emission of carbon di oxide and if it crosses a certain limit, the earth may lose its identity.

Hence we have to stop use of fossil fuels for generating electricity immediately and switch over to renewable energy like solar and wind energy, at the same time conserving forests and rivers around us,” said Kumar.

It could be achieved only with the help of political leadership for which efforts have already been started, he added.

Kumar further said that the renewable source of energy was far more cheaper than that generated by using fossil fuels and  proposed a concept of connecting the world through unified power grid by so that electricity could be transferred from one Country to another at much cheaper rate. He, however, said that political forces across the world will have to reach to a consensus to make it possible.

“Another solution producing electricity on solar roof tops which provides multi-dimensional generation, consumption as well as distribution of electricity,” said Kumar.

Former Vice Chancellor of Veer Kunwar Singh University Dr Suresh Prasad Singh, former VC of Kolhan University Dr RPP Singh, former Chairman of Pollution Control Board AK Mishra, social activists Ashok Sarkar, Rakesh Bhaskar and Manoj Singh also expressed their views in the seminar.
