Gender disparity in the country can be tackled only through proactive intervention in areas such as economic empowerment of women, building of adequate social and physical infrastructure and improving women’s role in governance, said Women’s Congress National Secretary, Pushpa Chauhan at a meeting in Giridih on Sunday to evoke sensitisation among the women.

In the meeting Chauhan explained the vision of Congress to spur many more initiatives for women in the State, she said that there was a need to strengthen the systems and processes that facilitated women to take control and claim ownership of their lives.

For last 12 years BJP has been ruling the State and this time Congress wants to make a tight grip on the polls. Women committee have been already formed at Block level, District level and it was the need of an hour that women get their rights secured at every level in the state.

National Secretary further added, “As poor, women are often incapacitated to act individually, social mobilisation for their economic redemption is a critical necessity.”

Participatory institution building through self-help groups is one of the most effective tools for the empowerment of women in the State. More than 350 women participated in the convention along with the Jharkhand Womens’ Cell Secretary, Abha Singh, district chairperson, Roma Singh and other efficient working hands Kanchan, Bindu, Kalavati and Bena Devi.
